Hackland Aloe Garden is situated on a cane farm in Bishopstowe, Pietermaritzburg, overlooking Ashburton towards Table Mountain.
Hackland Aloe Garden was established in 2012 and consists of beautiful indigenous aloes, as well as some Hybrid Sunbird Aloe varieties.
There are also lots of interesting things to see in the garden. One being an old original Voortrekker wagon! This garden is set in the backdrop of sugar cane fields. providing food and shelter to the wide variety of sunbirds and its inhabitants. The wide range of Indigenous and Sunbird Aloes, create a calm and tranquil atmosphere. colour and life on every twist and turn of a footpath.
This is truly a paradise for artists and photographers who would like to capture the stunning plants and surroundings.

Thank You for Making Hackland Open Gardens a Success
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who visited, supported, exhibited, volunteered, and contributed to the Hackland Open Gardens weekends during June and July.
It was a wonderful celebration of nature, community, and creativity. Visitors enjoyed the spectacular display of aloes in full winter bloom, browsed a beautiful selection of indigenous and aloe plants, discovered the stunning Sunbird Hybrid Aloes from Ndundulu Aloes, and explored the unique offerings from our talented artisan stallholders.
The delicious food, freshly brewed coffee, and local treats added to the warm atmosphere, while the exceptional birdlife and countless photography opportunities made each weekend a memorable experience.
Your enthusiasm, generosity, and support helped make these open garden weekends truly special. Whether you attended, shared your expertise, showcased your products, or simply spread the word, you played an important part in our success.

Our garden is open for the public, by appointment only.
Weekend hours:
Saturday: 08h00- 12h00
Sunday: CLOSED
Entrance fee is R30 per person, no charge for children under 12 years.
